Posted: Tue Apr 20, 2010 7:08 pm Just to correct Corbiere; the flame produced by the combustion of a fuel in oxygen varies in colour. The combustability of the substance means it produces a different heat of flame. A hotter flame means a lighter colour. Flames of this nature can be anything from a blue-white to a orange-red colour. Aswell as the above adding certain chemicals to a combustion reacion can produce different colours. For instance adding copper produces a vivid green flame while adding potasium produce bright pink flame.
