Title: Spam reducer
Summary: Brick Spam Reducer
Submitted By: Red_Guy
Date Submitted: Sat Apr 10, 2010 9:57 pm
Description: Spam Reducer

Spam reducer does 2 things:
1) prevent people from building REALLY REALLY tall towers
2) prevent builds from containing too many 1x1 or 1x1x5 bricks

TOWERS
The default values for tower prevention are 75 for normal user and 250 for admin.
This does not mean 75 or 250 bricks tall. This is the actual in game height coordinate of the brick. Each brick is 0.6 units tall, so a tower starting at a height of 0 needs to be quite tall before it gets 75 units tall.

Some maps may need the height values adjusted for this addon to work properly. If you get errors placing bricks on the ground,

then adjust the value of $Pref::Server::BrickHeight and $Pref::Server::AdminBrickHeight accordingly

ANTI-SPAM
Spam Reducer also helps prevent builds from using too many "spammy" bricks. The defaults are the 1x1 and 1x1x5 bricks. The numbers in the file are percentages - not absolute values. A big build by an experienced builder will use 1x1 and 1x1x5 bricks. The bigger the build the more bricks will be used, but the percentage of the total bricks used will be fairly low.

Scenario 1: a big build
player puts down a baseplate (brick count = 1)
player puts down 50 1x12x5 bricks (brick count = 51)
player puts down a 1x1 (brick count = 52)
a single 1x1 brick out of 52 total bricks is only 2% of the total, so no error is displayed

Scenario 2: a "spammy" build
player puts down a baseplate (brick count = 1)
player puts down a 1x1 (brick count = 2)
now, since the single 1x1 is half (50%) of the player's total build, they will see an error message: "Error: Too many brick1x1Data bricks. Max % is 20 of total. You are at 50 Use other bricks instead"

See instructions.txt included in the addon for more information

Is it possible to spam with larger bricks? (I.E. holding down the enter key and a numpad button with a baseplate/cube)

@roy 225
If you spam you will get kicked/banned
On-topic: It's a nice concept but it messes up bedroom bricks.

this is kinda one of those add-ones that are only useful if you know how to figure out what Pref:Server (more stuff) means. it is also VERY complicated just reading it.

Sometimes small bricks are useful for more detalied builds.

@takato14:
This is really for those who do have a good computer and thus zero lag with 50k bricks or more.
But then host a dedicated and get all the folks with low-end laptops joining and complaining about lag and spammy builds. And then they leave and dont come back... and tell all their friends.

Also for admins - it makes cleanup much easier, as theres usually less stray 1x1s littered across the landscape

@musicguy16:
Good point there -- which is why I made the limits as a PERCENTAGE, not an absolute

@takato14:

We are not all rich like you and can afford a powerfull computer. So this helps prevent spamzillazarz by noobs... I think its good and i will probably use it.

...no. Sorry but its not always the spam itself. Thats the admins job to make sure theres no spam. It also interfers with pixel art, small items that use 1x1 bricks, etc.

Just get a better computer and then spam wont make a difference at all. Its the only real way to deal with spam. This is a good idea, but preventing people from using the bricks that they want to is just not ok in my opinion. 4/5 but i wont DL or use it, cuz spam isn't a factor anymore.

Im not really seeing how this works, also I don't think I'll use it.

I have alot more fun by hitting a players spam with a wand or using /clearspambricks and watching noobs cry over how hard it was for them to place over 300 1x1's.

It's a good concept, but it's too difficult to get right. "Spam" can be a very subjective thing.

Can you make this come with a GUI with functions such as binding several spammy bricks together to make a bigger one?

that would help alot.

I would only use this in RP, never in a normal server, or clan server.
